Transmission Fluid: To Flush or Not to Flush

Flushing out your transmission fluid is vital for the longevity of your transmission. If left too long it will become dark and start to thicken. Once this happens, changing it can become problematic.

How? As it thickens, the transmission fluid can stick into cracks and crevasses hiding problems that occur with age. When it is flushed out, you may suddenly have a problem that could have been caught and repaired early on.

The Tilly Mill Goodyear Experts, near Dunwoody and Doraville, GA, say your transmission fluid should be changed every 80,000 miles. Make sure the transmission is flushed completely and cleaned. This process takes around 16 quarts of fluid. If your mechanic tells you that you only needed four quarts, that indicates that they did not fully drain the transmission.

You can stop by any time during business hours and have one of our ASE-certified mechanics flush your transmission fluid for you.
